I just watched the DW finale. Haven't read any other reactions yet, but before I go nap, I thought I'd post my initial thoughts.

Spoilers? )

7/6/08 01:53 pm - [info]palpytehebil1 posting in [info]bad_rpers_suck - ....Twinkings are bad, okay?

Dude. You do not need to be a part of every post.

Every plot does NOT need to revolve around you or one of your characters. And the fact that every time we call you on this you go in your corner and sulk because OMG WE DON'T LOVE YOU. When we call you on it it's because we're tired of you twinking it up.

Your character can't read minds. Make sure you're responding to something that's in quotes.

We've gone over the outline for one of my character's weddings multiple times. The fact that you suddenly decided that you wanted to have one of your characters - out of the blue - hit another WITH A FOLDING CHAIR for NO REASON is not cool. Thank God you brought this up in chat before you decided to do it in the thread.

Also, your other character? Stop thinking that everyone will let you do anything you want with them. You won't be granted access to advanced technology because you're the new guy! Someone is not going to give you access to something that could make their child paralyzed again just because you think your character should have it.

Also, don't act so surprised that the character you wanted to ship yours with went and dumped your character's ass. Because HE WAS SLEEPING AROUND. For your information? There isn't a girl in the world that would take that news and be like, "OMG DO ME NOW, I LUV YOU MORE THAN ANYTHING!"

Most girls wouldn't have let you get the conversation as far as you did. Most girls would've hung up on you instantly, likely after a lot of swearing and screaming.

Seriously. Things will go so much better for you if you stop trying to make every plot and every thread The Amazing Adventures of Your Character (and his collection of not as cool or awesome friends).

Just knock it off. You're a decent writer. You're just the Chuck Austin of RP'ers at the moment.

Stop the twinking. For the love of god, just stop.

I'm currently working through some late 19th/early 20th century fantasy and science fiction, courtesy of Gutenberg.

I'm interested in finding the point when authors stopped including lengthy, pointless, preambles about the obscure, convoluted manner in which they'd acquired the enclosed manuscript. And how, notwithstanding the outré nature if the narrative, they had felt duty-bound to place it before the public. They're simply presenting the facts as they have them and are making no claims as to the manuscripts veracity, leaving that to the sage judgment of the reader.

I pose a situation at you, my fellow RPers, and I ask your opinion on my reaction to it. Maybe I'm the one who is in the wrong, but I'm feeling really abused here, and I'm just curious as to what the rest of you think.

[This is really teal...but if anyone has the time to read it and give me an honest opinion I would really appreciate it. I'm kinda at my wit's end here...]

7/6/08 01:36 am - [info]back_in_banana posting in [info]bad_rpers_suck - Control Issues, What?

Let's say you are in a game that has two mods.  You are not one of them.  You are very enthusiastic and keep going to the mods with ideas for scenes you want to run.  And the mods are happy you are enthusiastic so they keep saying 'sure' and step back to let you do your thing.

Do you:
a) bitch behind the mods' backs about how they don't really mod and make you do all the work?
b) bitch behind the mods' backs about how they are trying to steal your ideas?
c) start telling other people they can't ask the mods for permission to run *their* scenes because that's YOUR job?
d) all of the above?

So your fellow players tell the mods that you are both being a bully and talking about the mods behind your back.  One of the mods confronts you, at which point, you say:

a) Everyone makes me feel like it's my responsibility to run everything.
b) People are always asking me to run scenes that I don't want to run!
c) Could you please run this scene instead of me?
d) all of the above?

The mod promises to take care of everything and gives you the benefit of the doubt, and arranges all the things you just asked for.  You post a friendslocked LJ entry that says :

a) The mod stole your scene and wouldn't let you run it!
b) The mod told you that you're not allowed to run scenes anymore!
c) The mod is trying to kick you out of the game!
d) all of the above?

Then you change your facebook status to bitch about the mods.   Is this classy, y/n?

I think this has gone on for long enough.

I understand you do not like this player. Oh trust me we've all had our fair share of people we don't like however I think you're dragging out this "dislike" into grudge over a petty little thing. Going "omg they did this today" is that really helping you or anyone for that matter?

Other then the past what have they done to you? Are they using their characters as a mouth piece to attack you? Have they blatantly caused drama in the community to stir up trouble for you?

No? Then stop your bitching.

Yes? Then take it to a moderator.

Really complaining every day in a personal journal? If it bothers you that much ignore them. Scroll past their journal entries. Being passive aggressive and acting like a child isn't going to get you anywhere.

It's starting to become grudge wank.

TITLE: The Sorceress: Destines First Steps
PERPETRATOR: PlatinumPlayer
SUE-O-METER: (awful)

FULL NAME: Tessa Alexandria Stormweaver
SPECIES: Sorceress
HAIR: "Her hair, black like as night flowed over her, not resting as it refused the pull of gravity and it swayed like a ghostly mantle over her slender frame, the length of it equal to her height."
EYES: "pupil-less"
MARKINGS: none described
POSSESSIONS: Magical clothes: "draped about her shimmering, shifting between spectrums of colors while at times appearing almost translucent or liquid. It was a magical gown, something alive yet not. In its current state one would assume it to be mimicking its owner’s feelings as it found grey to be its most favored color of the present moment."

ORIGIN: She is from "the Sect of the White Eye". She is one of the first Sorceresses to go to Hogwarts. The wizarding community and the sorcerers don't get along so well. "She like all her kind was born from the great fountain that rested at the center of their grand city; a city with no name, an existence unto itself which was so long ago removed from the world in the time of the great magical war."
CONNECTIONS TO CANON: She meets Harry and everyone on the Hogwarts Express in first year. She has been inserted into the story. She is introduced in the Great Hall, but she gets to skip the sorting and is automatically placed into Gryffindor.
SPECIAL ABILITIES: a "a distinct and elegant voice". She can sense moods. She knows a lot about magic before school even starts. She can sense "potent" magic.

NOTES: She wonders why she was sent to Hogwarts as an ambassador, and I wonder why too. She doesn't appear to be promoting Sorceress-Wizard relations, does she?

Would it have killed you to use correct names? )

7/5/08 11:31 pm - [info]hippogroupie posting in [info]bad_rpers_suck - That Amazing Roleplayer that is...

... never there.

I think that this is the most irritating thing that one must come across in their roleplaying adventures. For one, these people are EXACTLY what you need to crave your rolelpay-mania. They're at whatever level you are, they balance your plot ideas with their own, their character gets along with your character, they're friendly IRL - it isn't every day that you come across someone that is just so much fun to roleplay with. At first, you get going at full speed, running along at an average post-count. It could be better, but hey, these people are amazing, right? You can put up with them, if it means that you'll get one more post out of them.

Slowly, however, these posts become once a day, and even when you're talking to them on some sort of messenger, and you mention the roleplay, they'd go "Uhh you want a post?"

FIRST of all. I'm only talking to you because I want a post. Why the hell else would I randomly be talking to someone I don't even know?! HUH? God. Some of these people need to be told straight to their face.

SECOND of all. How about when I answer, yes, I would like a post? Shouldn't you run along and work on it? It's only fair - especially when you say you will. I come back an hour later, hopefully, and find... my email empty. EMPTY!

This finally putters out to nothing. I don't hear from you, you don't hear from me. Meanwhile, I'm crying on the inside. This Amazing Roleplayer, I have come to learn...

... is a douche on the inside.

The End.

You suck.

You? REALLY suck.

Forgetting the backstabbing, double-talking, whatever whatever? You are the FLAKIEST mod person ever. EVER ever.

Why? You open comms, you close comms, you OPEN them again, only to shut them down two months later. Overhaul comms, 'No really, this time it's for YOU guys' and send people on their way.

And really? Let's not get into the whole 'THIS IS THE LAST TIME EVER EVER EVER PROMISE!'. Because, really?

You just suck.

And? We'll see you in six months when your *cough*adoring crowds*cough* pull you back in for ONE LAST TIME.

Tell me something. Please.

How often, really, in life, do you sit down next to a complete stranger and just start telling them your life story?

Because if that is something you do, please tell me so I can avoid like the plague the places you're going to be? As far as I'm concerned, that is NOT a normal human interaction. "Hello there! I'm Tommy! I just lost my entire family and I'm so very alone!"

Uhhh.... no? So then why, on god's green earth, has that happened to me in RP at least four times this past week?

Your characters sound like crazy people, for god's sake!

Best thing ever: Boomer's strip club, up the street. We got a picture of the sign. XD

I've written better, I know. But I've rarely written something I felt was this necessary.

summary: The Scene from Rose’s POV. Something I wrote to make the whole thing more acceptable to me, as I don’t quite agree with the choices made by RTD.

Autism =/= Mute.

Yes some autistic people may be mute, yet you assume that all of them are with your misinformed statement; they are NOT the same thing. One dose not automatically make you the other. I know. My kid is autistic. Speaks just fine thank you very much.

They are different things, different birth problems, or in the case of being mute, sometimes a result of something tragic. Just because your character might have autism does not mean they are incapable of speech and also depending on the severity of the autism you’re not going to be doing certain things.

Having severe autism you are not going to be a teenaged (as in 14) martial arts expert and linguistic expert bad assed, hottie, ass kicking, bimbo. Where the hell do you come up with these ideas?

7/5/08 04:26 pm - [info]madam_xyz posting in [info]bad_rpers_suck - Sort of moral dillema...

I read something that a person I RP with wrote that really, really personally offended me. The subject matter is already controversial, but it was the way that they said it that absolutely disgusted me. It took me everything not to just rip them a new one.

It makes me question if I really want to RP with them. I know that most people say that personal preferences/opinions shouldn't have anything to do with it, but it just really threw me for a loop. I don't want to be an asshole and just leave because of that, but at the same time I don't know how I can really doing it knowing that they said something that...ignorant.

If I think it's to the point where I just can't RP, should I just drop it? I know it'd make me bad, but 1.) it's not like it's this in-depth heavily-involved RP, more just slow-progressing and for fun, and 2.) I know that, from here on out, that's all I'll be able to think of.

I hate getting into ethical/political/social arguments, but this was something that hit really close to home, and guh, I don't know what to do...

EDIT: Tried to talk things out really nicely. Turns out that they're kind of a bigger c**t than I thought. So really, really unlikely that any RP will happen between us in the future. From what they've said in response to me though, I'm actually kind of relieved that I got out of it early :/ Everyone loves drama llamas.

7/5/08 12:20 pm - [info]ragabashtule posting in [info]bad_rpers_suck - What the fuck, seriously.

I run an RP guild/LS on my FFXI server.

teal deer background info for the people who want to read it. )

Okay, so that's all out of the way.

I will be heading off to law school in Cleveland in a month. I have an apartment and everything; I just need to move and get settled in.

Founder has told me that when I have to quit the game due to law school, he's going to toss the LS and move to a different server since there's nothing keeping him on the server where he is right now. When I asked him why he would move to a different server, he told me that he was tired of dealing with the assholes on our server (he participates a lot in endgame activities, which are usually chock full of drama, lying, backstabbing, hacks, and other assorted bullshittery). I told him that there are assholes on the endgame LSes on every server, and that if he switched servers, he'd have to start all over again. Founder's response to this was, "Well, yeah, but it'll take me a while to figure out who the assholes are." Buh? True, he'd be able to transfer his character, levels, and items, but he'd have to start all over again getting to know people, start all over again with Dynamis points, and he'd still have to wind up dealing with greedy assholes since they seem to be drawn to endgame. So, IMO, switching servers = stupid idea. Especially since Founder does not have an easy time of it when it comes to meeting new people. At least he has friends and such on the server he's on right now.

I brought this up with OM last night when he finally got back on the game. OM thinks that Founder won't take well to a server transfer, and does not agree with his idea to scrap the LS. There are still people on there who enjoy RPing, however few they may be, and we are getting new members every week. True, I suppose that the more active players could always branch off and start their own RP guild. But after all the work that's gone into getting it to the point where it's at with the players that we have -- and they all have parts to play in the plot -- I don't feel as though it would be fair to the players for Founder to be like, "Well, since [info]ragabashtule left, y'all can just go fuck yourselves, and I'm switching servers. BYE!" /breaklinkshell

Y'know, I'm the only fucking one who approves member subscriptions and I'm the only fucking one who welcomes new players into the guild. I'm also the only fucking one who apparently gives a shit enough to contact players we haven't heard from in a while or ever to ask them what's going on in their lives and why haven't we seen them in a while. Unfortunately, as OM said to me the other night, Founder is not really a good leader, but he is a great follower. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but when it comes to RP and running a guild, sorry, but it is a bad thing. If you're going to be a GM, you need to fucking LEAD. Not fucking run off when one of the stronger GMs (either me or OM) has to go pay attention to life due to law school or one's house getting struck by lightning. You have players who are relying on you, and it's not fair to them to leave them shit out of luck.

It really makes me fucking sad to think that the guild will pretty much just go to shit when I leave since apparently Founder doesn't want to lead it in my absence. Yeah, that's real fucking fair to the players who actually go there to RP and get away from game drama. I don't even think he's given any thought to handing off leadership to one of the more active players who might like to take control.

So I'm really in kind of a sad position. I do not agree with Founder's decision at all, but it is ultimately his LS to run since I don't hold the keys to the linksack. Yes, the active players could branch off and form their own LS, and I do realise that. But why break something that isn't broken? I really don't get it, and it really is upsetting, and I know that the players won't like the decision at all -- especially since they most likely won't even be told about it. They'll just log into the LS one day expecting to RP and will instead receive the following message:

This linkshell has been broken and does not exist.

7/5/08 11:52 am - [info]bells_of_seiryu posting in [info]bad_rpers_suck - Dear player

You are simply wonderful but you are also extremely bossy and over demanding when it comes to an rp. I love the plots we do in fact I wish we could do more great plots... but sadly you go through these phases of "I want this now!" and don't finish them. Example on an rpg forum we started this wonderful serious plot between our characters everything was so intense. an hour later you said "I am bored with this." It irked me but I was polite to not say anything about that. The next minute you demanded an rp on another community.. We start getting into the more interesting part of it. Then you quit... You wonder why I am getting tired of rping in one particular fandom... cause I don't feel like you are committed to our storylines.

I am greatful for all these rp's but... when you start something... please finish it I don't like being the one feeling like I did something wrong when I haven't done a thing. Another thing.. when you get into a new fandom it is great. You tell people how great this fandom is and how great this one rpg comm is. Week later you say you are already burned out even after I worked so hard to learn my character.

Yeah I am highly miffed and seriously getting burned out.

From your's truly. A player losing their faith at role playing in general.

Just because Character D proposed to Character A does not mean that characters X, Y, Z, N, W, and G must all immediately propose to their significant others. Way to steal D and A's thunder, guys. Not to mention look like total attention whores.
